How to Play Poker Videos

Do you have to point out your hand in poker?

OK, here's what happened: I was playing poker, and it was 5 of 7 cards or whatever it is when you have to make a hand out of 7 cards. Obviously, I didn't know what I was doing...so I was focused on a full house I had in my hand. When I was called, I laid my cards out and everyone just stared at me. I didn't know what was going on and someone said "Well, what is it?" I had never played poker where I had to point out what I had. I thought the dealer was supposed to call it. Apparently, I had a straight flush and didn't see it, so others at the table called that out to me and this guy FLIPPED OUT because I have to play my own game and call my own hand and no one should be pointing out a better hand to me, even though it was there and I had it...I had to call it myself. He SPLIT the pot with me, but my flush beat what he had. Shouldn't I have won, or do you really have to specifically say what your hand is? Thanks.

  1. you should have gotten the whole pot. the cards call themselves.
  2. i think that in afriendly game the guys around you shouldnt mind helping you out, being that your abeginner. obviously this wasnt the case, so maybe you should learn the game alittle more before you risk your hard earned money.
  3. actually if you call out the wrong hand and it is worse you keep what you yelled out
  4. In home games, you should not worry about this - it shouldn't be a big deal among friends, but the host's rules ultimately will prevail. If this is your friend, get a new one! If at a casino, you don't have to say a word - if you're not sure what you have, just throw your hand down and let the dealer figure it out. (But it's best to know what you have so that you can bet/fold accordingly, and to correct the dealer's errors.)
