Poker and showing cards?

I was playing heads up poker with a friend and I was low stack and I was dealt pocket 2's. The flop came 2 K Q. I went all in (about 30 chips, he had 90). He immediately slammed his cards on the table face up and they were pocket nines and I flipped over my 2's. He stood up to throw something away and I flopped the next two cards and cheered for myself. He said "What?! I FOLDED! I DIDN'T SAY CALL" There have been numerous times where both he and I have slammed out cards down the same way he did when we had the nuts. I took it as a form of calling and an argument insued. Who was right? Did he call?

  1. I think he folded - he showed his cards. By protocol, if he calls the other player shows first. But you guys should get your act together, this how people end up getting shot.
  2. HE CALLED YOU!
  3. He called. Plus he's a jerk for trying that. If he didn't say fold and flipped his cards up. That my friend is a call. Trust me if he would have hit a 9 or straight he would say he called!
  4. all depends.. you say that you have done this in the past so there is a bit of history there, however protocol dictates the the called flip his cards first. The people I play with would have said that it was a call as no one mucks a hand face up, let alone not tossing them towards the dealer ... I would say that it was a call, but you guys need to put some house rules in place to stop this from happening.. I mean come on, it's pretty cheap to try what he did and I guarantee you if he had the hand he would been saying it was a call not a fold..
  5. It's considered a fold if he turns his cards over without saying anything. Here's the WSOP rules and regulations. http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/pdfs/wsop.tournament-rules.07.pdf Check out rule numbers 45, 48, 51, 68, 84 But it sounds like he was trying to be a jerk.
  6. It really depends.. If he didn't say anything I would say he folded and he was just showing you what he had. But could go either way.
  7. he didn't call, he didn't muck..but you showed your cards. either he folded or both hands are dead and you split what's in the pot before your all in.
  8. Flipping cards up does not kill a hand unless you are in a tournament. Flipping cards up does not mean you call, fold, or raise. Putting chips into the pot would mean a call. You need to wait until chips are put into the pot or cards folded to determine what to do next.
  9. Hmm by visualizing it pretending its my friend it wouldn't matter if he showed you his cards he has 2 make the call and say it verbally
  10. If he didn't say he called or push chip in the pot, he folded. Showing you his cards means nothing without another action, other than showing he's an assbag.
  11. To call, a player must say "call" or put a call into the pot. He did neither. Generally speaking, he did not call. BUT because you said that between the two of you, it is common practice to put your cards on the table face up (but not in the muck) to express a call, I think you could hold him to a call. However, considering what the board was, what his hand was, and the fact that you went all-in for 1/3 of his chip stack...it makes sense that he would fold pocket 9's. You two should straighten out the rules to eliminate any future confusion.
