Greatest poker player ever and why?
I have to say the greatest ever is Doyle Brunson. I played at the World Series one year and got kicked out early but I got a chance to see Doyle in action. Doyle had pk 2's and his opponent had pk 6's the flop came (10h , 7d, 5s) his opponent I forgot his name bet quickly of $425 Doyle raised and he re-raised and Doyle went all in and the other guy folded. how did he know his 2's were good with 3 over cards out there and facing a re-raise. Thats why he is the best player of all time. 2nd is Stu Ungar

- I guess I have to agree. Who knows how good Ungar would be if he were still alive.
- Umm that is not why Doyle is so good anyone can do that. Actually in today's game that would be a bad move with so many amatuers in the game. If Doyle is the best it is because he has played so well for so long. Stu Unger played well but only for a short period compared to Doyle. I am not sure it can really be decided but I do like Doyle for his longevity.
- For me it all depends on the game. If you are talking about best all round player, then either johnny moss or brunson are the best. But if you are talking about best no-limit hold em player then i would take Phil helmuth. And for Omaha high low i would take chip Reese.
- dude, poker is all luck. A monkey could play it
- Doyle Brunson is a pretty dam good pick, but for arguements sake, Ill pick someone else. Johnny Chan would be my next pick. Won back to back WSOP Main Events, tied for most WSOP Bracelets (10, with none other than Doyle Brunson), is top 5 on the all time money list for the WSOP, wins regularly at the top cash games in Vegas. For the future though, Phil Ivey is gonna break most of the tournament records, he's too good. Butmy answer to your question is Doyle Brunson.
- I'm gonna argue Phil Ivey's case. He plays the highest stakes, 50 or 60 hours a week at least. He most likely makes the most money of any poker player per year on average. He's made it very far in the past WSOP main events.
- ME, THATS WHO. IF YOU PLAY POKER AND DONT GO IN IT THINKING YOUR THE BEST MOFO THERE, THEN YOU WILL GET TAKEN OUT FASTER THAN BOOBS IN MARDI GRA. YOU NEED THAT CONFIDENCE WHEN UP AGAINST WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. THATS WHY YOUNG NEWBEES ARE WINNING THE WSOP EVERY YEAR. ITS ALL IN YOUR ATTITUDE.
- Hard to argue against Doyle, but I would have to say Chip Reese. For one, Doyle says Reese is the best ever, and that is enough for me. Two, he won the $50,000 HORSE event at the WSOP last year. This was the toughest field ever! Last, he kills the bigest live games. He plays the best and beats the best....and has for years. So, for me, it is Chip Reese.
- Definately Doyle, I just love that old guy! If I ever get to see him in person I would just want to go up a squeeze the dickens out of him! He is one of the founding fathers of Texas Hold'em and he is POKER! Stu Unger was a prodigy of cards, but he was a better Gin Rummy player, but I certainly wouldn't place him on the top of my list. I have so many favorites it is hard to choose, but of the females I would say Jen Harman hands down!
