  1. Online poker plays alot faster. The shuffle is instantaneous. The players have the ability to act in advance and not change the other players actions. The money does not seem like money because you can not spend it on groceries or such. There is a social aspect to playing live. You can see the player face to face when they are bluffing.
  2. you strategy depends on how you play if you play a non paying version like on yahoo games or aol games, you should play very aggressive. its not your money, so what the hey if you get a bad hand, its not your beer money that you lost if you are paying, you should bluff very rarely bluffing online gets you no where. bluff only if people around you, who are usually very aggressive, start folding
  3. Not sure I can tell you this. I have been playin online for about a year now done allright made some money. I play home games all the time with my buds. I usually make money. I went to Foxwoods Casinno for my first tournament and my head went nuts. I tried to think about pot odds and stuff and all I got was white noise. All the same I cant wait to go back. Online you need to watch players betting patterns and delays in their betting. You do this live too but you also get visual information that you need to process as well, ie. tells and nervous ticks.
  4. the obvious major difference is the fact that when you play live you can see your opponent, and you may be able to pick up some physical tells on your opponents, so i think there is slightly more info available to you live...however, there are some tells, especially how quickly someone takes to act, which are much more exploitable online than live since you have limited time...the other major difference is that you see more hands online, so you see more bad beats, which means you need to be able to maintain your composure better really, i don't think you need to take any different strategies for online play per se, you just need to adjust to the fact that people play differently online than live...many people are more comfortable bluffing and are more aggressive because they know their opponent can't watch them, and they don't have to put chips in the pot, they just click and the bet is made...also, in general i would say the play is looser online than live, again because they don't have to think about putting real money into the pot with a weak hand, they just click and boom it happens
  5. There are several differences... 1. Online the game moves at a faster pace. Have about 30 seconds to make a decision. 2. Online there are different variety of buy-ins. Can play a game you can currently afford. 3. The tells are totally different. For more on this check Learn To Win Holdem for the differences. 4. Online players are more likely to be rude and not follow poker etiquette. 5. Definitely have more assistance with software programs to help you with your decision making than in a live tournament.
  6. One of the problems I ran into playing live after playing online is that I was used to having the pot total and player stack totals available at a glance. This makes it much easier to pay attention to what the other players are doing because you don't have to keep a running total of the pot in your head. I found that was often incorrectly calculated my pot odds because I had the wrong pot total.
  7. I play online poker all the time and I play at casino boats in my area. I have completely different strategies for online play vs. live play. The major differences depend upon whether you are playing a tournament or a ring game, and also depends on the amount of cash being wagered. For example, if you are playing in a tournament freeroll you will find a ton of donkeys who go all in with no hand whatsoever, or if you are playing a 5/10cent ring game you also find a ton of donkeys. If you are playing higher stakes the number of donkeys goes down as people who play for higher stakes tend to be better players and also because of the potential of greater cash loss, people are less likely to play too loosely. ** Your best bet when playing online is to play tight/aggressive at least until you have more experience. You will find sometimes that individual hands seem to be like a lottery drawing but in general if you only play AA,KK,QQ,JJ,AK,AQ, or high suited connectors, in general you will come out on top in most cases. It takes time, practice and experience before you can really start playing well as online poker is completely different from live play. The only way to really understand the differences is just to play. I suggest that you start by playing in freeroll tourneys where you can win real cash without making a real cash deposit and play in those for a while until you are confident with your play. Several sites if not all poker sites offer daily freerolls, some sites have several freerolls every day. If you are not interested in tourneys and only want to play ring games, then try to play first for play chips which are free or play very low or micro stake games such as 5/10 cents etc... Try cake poker or carbon poker. Also, if you tune in to rounders radio, they have a daily show where they talk poker and only poker with experts and they host daily freeroll tournaments also.
