- I love 7 card stud, In the old days stud used to be the game to play, instead of hold 'em. If you have played hold em before then it could be some trouble, or at the very least you will have to adjust your game because hand values are very different in stud vs hold em. A straight is not as powerful in stud as it is in hold em.If you can't beat what you see then get out. Plus you have to remember all folded cards that everyone has folded so you know the outs you may have in the deck. Making a low two pair 2-2-3-3-k-a-8 is always dangerous to do. But i think knowing the situation and the possible hands other players may have is key to winning, also position has very little importance in stud because the high hand starts the betting each round so the position you play from means nothing... good luck...
- avoiding tells is easy, don't look at your cards unless it's your turn to act, because many players in 7-stud give their hand away on third street i would say the most important things are to watch the upcards and the folded cards...if someone raises with a K up and you have pocket eights, you might want to consider folding, depending on how loose or tight that particular player has been playing...also, if you have a drawing hand on third street(like a 3-flush or 3-straight) i would advise you to play it fast, since you can build a pot in which are very likely the favorite, except when people have folded 3 or more of the upcards you need to fill the flush or straight since you are less experienced and going up against pros, i would play straightforwardly and hope to make some hands and get paid off for them...you aren't going to outplay them, you need to catch some cards and then get them pot-committed in the big betting rounds
