How many would use card counting and poker to help education?

Before you go arrg no way.. think To be good at blackjack card counting you need to learn to: Have a good memory to remeber the cards. Very good at mental arithmetic To be able to think and count very fast. Do this in an environment with there is lots to distract you To do it without getting caught To have the confidence to do it cooly and relax. To be able to think of other things at the same time and say have a converstaion. It also makes leanring a lot more fun and give a reason to study. This would help other subjects as well. You just need to point out Casions know their stuff and good at catching people and if they try it with the wrong people. Well anatomy removal... As for poker... Strategy, Social skills, Mental artihmatic Negotiation skills Manipluation skills. Cool under pressure Interogation (good for spotting liers) Less likley to get conned Brinkmanship Just point out gambling problems ie no loans Also with poker body language. As said you certainly cover all the pitfalls of gambling ie getting in debt with nasty folk. that you will always loose. that never take loans or gamble with what you cannot loose etc., But here the point is usuing a game to cover all the above and help say with mathes and social skills. The best card counters were at the top engineering uni in the us MIT Sarah thats what I was thinking... Not so much the gambling side other then to make it fun... You could use sweets or forfets

2. why don't you become a dealer??? poker dealers make crazy money, or you could be a floor boss... working in a casino is pretty fun
3. i am a teacher and i show my students how to play cards, i dont go into some of the finer details of the game or talk about gambling, but card games in general require number skills, problem solving, decision making and chance , all sound mathematical concepts, plus they have fun and dont really see it as a 'lesson', too easy!
4. My grandad taught me basic maths by playing dominoes and blackjack; but we didn't bet and I don't think many parents would think betting a good idea. It was the game that was the point, not the gambling.

6. My gran taught me to play cards, dominoes and chinese checkers at the age of 3, I think you're talking a lot of sense, by making it fun the kids don't actually realise that they are learning something.

8. lol, not a chance in hell m8!!! i can see your point, but if u teach the kid to gamble basically, n then say dnt do it its bad, ur teachin the kid double standards! tut. my ex thinks he'll b teachin our baby 2 play cards n tried using wot u just said 2 justify it n i swear if i catch him doing it, or my baby playin these games he'll only be having the one baby in his life....cuz i'll chop his bloody nuts off!!! lol. gd point tho plus if u play 'fun' (bore the hell outa me these games do) like this all the time to get them to learn, when they're sat at a desk doing GCSE's or A /AS lvels from a book they just won't be able to learn a dicky bird (apparently, a teacher told me that when i was at school, summat 2 do wiv how ur brain absorbs information). dnt get me wrong im not sayn dnt play games at all, just not all the time so they can get the most outa their key stage 3 ed.
