What is the best poker strategy for a online tournment?

  1. You gotta know when to hold 'em, and you gotta know when to fold 'em.
  2. I think like most tournaments the best strategy is to take it easy and not get involved in lots of speculative hands. Many people online try to play like they see on TV. This leads them into situations they are not equipped to handle. If you wait for some premium cards you can usually take them out. Of course your strategy will vary depending on the size of the tournament, the size of your stack, and the speed at which the blinds increase. But in most cases if you approach it like a marathon as opposed to a sprint, you should do fine.
  3. Hi David: Any professional poker player will tell you that patience is the most important strategy in tournament play. It is very easy to sit during a long tournament and become bored if you don't get some decent cards for long periods of time. Don't let bordom affect your play. Don't play when you are tired or under the influence of any alcholic substance. Having your wits about you is really important. Although patience is the number one strategy, understanding your opponents and utilizing your table position to your advantage if just as important. If you play your game consistantly you will win more than you lose! Good luck and I hope this helped.
  4. everyone's style differs; perhaps you should practice with play money or small blinds real money in tourneys until you find what works for you play conservatively... obviously, always remember that the other player is trying to outsmart you, whether online or live
  5. (For Holdem) Don't play a lot of hands. If you have good cards and win, show them at the beginning to appear conservative. Then when the blinds keep going up, be more agressive pre-flop and people will respect you and generally fold.
