How to play poker against an idiot?....for good poker players and online players?

Okay in the past week, ive been playing poker against stone cold idiots....Im going to give two scenarios....happened yesterday and the day before. Pokerstars: I had AA preflop, in the big blind position, okay so i was guessing someone had a QQ cuz there was a pretty big raise about 4 times the BB in middle position, so naturally I reraise, what happens next? the player goes all in, I call, showdown time, what does he have?44, Im like wtf you went all in middle position, even reraised with a small pair, so as im enjoying my moment he hits a 4 on the river. Busted..... 2nd Case scenario, tourney time, 1500 stack, 15/30 blinds, this guy reraises a KK and goes all in against him, wtf does he have? 72 offsuit, he busts the KK with a two pair......,I had JJ preflop i folded it, so i mean for good online poker players, how do u play against such a player? what kind of tactics, and preflop play do u use against them?

  1. In scenario 1 you just have to accept that AA can get busted. Take solace in the fact that you will win that pot 4 times out of 5 so going all-in preflop is the right thing to do. You'll make money in the long run. The only other way to deal with it (at least in my opinion) is to play limit to take that style of play off the table. But in limit you are much more likely to have your aces cracked but similarly you are more likely to bust someone else's big pair. In scenario 2 you are still in the early going so in general you should be playing extremely tight and let the donks fight it out amongst themselves. It's ok to be aggressive when you get a hand but don't bet so much that you feel committed to call a raise. So in this situation if it was folder to me I'd usually raise to 120ish with KK (4BB) but I'd probably fold to an all-in, at least in a large tourney (e.g. a 4/180).
  2. You need to understand that an 80% chance to win doesn't mean a 100% chance to win. Creating mathematical advantages such as the one you created when you had AA and the one the other player created when they had KK is the way to win. You seem to have trouble understanding that regardless of the outcome of the hand, you still want to be in those situations. You're just going to occasionally lose the hands. Also try to understand that because you want to be in those situations, you need to stop berating players who play poorly. For one thing, you WANT them to play poorly (and if you disagree with that statement, then you are not a good enough poker player to capitalize on the most profitable situations). In addition, you're only going to make them play better, and make yourself look like a moron. There's an unwritten rule that people who have started to learn poker and get frustrated when they get a bad beat put on them seem to miss out on. NO TEACHING AT THE POKER TABLE. If you can't see yourself making money with players who play that way, try using a strong strategy at play money tables at a site like http://wsopfreerolls.com. Play money brings the craziest plays from opponents, and those games are as beatable as any. It's worth the time you put in.
  3. I'd always prefer to play against idiots than experts. Just read what the other answers say and bear in mind that AA will USUALLY win, KK will USUALLY win etc. Usually doesn't mean always. I've lost count of the number of times I have played big hands aggressively both online and in live games and got busted by trip deuces or full house 7's full of 2s, etc.
  4. its pretty easy, to play agains maniacs (people who bet big before the flop) just call them because if u have a really good hand, you could afford to wait and not scare off any other players that also want to call. like u said, they love to raise...let em they will raise again with nothing and someone will call them and if your AA holds up u could get a big pot!!
  5. If you are a good poker player then by definition all of your beats should be "bad beats." While it's true AA is the best starting hand it's still just a pair and your beloved pocket rockets will be cracked 10-20% of the time you play them. That really is good news because it's those miracle draws that keep bad players and gamblers coming back to the table and can potentially provide you with a lot of profit the 80% of the time their poor play doesn't pay off for them. Hope that helps.
