What happens in online poker sites when you get disconnected and cannot relog.?
I was just playing a tournament on full tilt poker and I was actually winning. Then I lost my connection and could not log on. Which led me to ask myself, "What happens to the poor player that is playing with real money?" I, fortunately, was playing with play money.

- The player will still be in the tournament, but it would be the equivalent of him folding every hand, so eventually the player would get blinded out.
- In a tournament, it treats you as "away from the table" and folds every hand. The same happens in a ring game. However, if you're in the middle of playing a hand there are different outcomes. Some tables/tournaments have "disconnect protection," which intends to protect the player's hand in the event that they lose the connection. Say you have AA on a 987 flop against two opponents. There is $50 in the pot and you lose your connection. You'd be considered "all in" (even if you weren't actually all in at that point) and a sidepot would be created. Your opponents could continue betting into the sidepot, but your stake in the hand would be protected. After the hand played out, if your hand was the best you'd win the main pot and the other two would battle for the sidepot. However, sites are moving away from this method. The reason is that when players were facing difficult decisions in big pots, they'd just pull their internet connections out and become "all in". People that had strong hands who thought that they might be beat would just do this. Now, many sites give you additional time, and if you don't reconnect in this time your hand is folded. Check with the site in question if you want to know the policy. Some in fact offer both types of tables, and you can choose which one you want.
