Good poker software?
I'm looking for freeware (or at least shareware with a free trial period) that is able to calculate poker odds. More specifically, all I need to be able to do is to get the percentage chance of winning a no-limit Texas Hold'em game with a specific starting hand and number of players (without knowledge of the other player's hands, of course). This would be similar to the way that ESPN displays the chance of players winning hands during the World Series of Poker. It doesn't necessarily have to work with any online poker software or anything, manual entering of hands is fine. The software can be an online app or a downloaded application, and no spyware or adware attached to it would be nice as well :) Sorry, I didn't mean to say the chance of "winning" the hand because obviously the way you play the hand will determine whether you win or not. What the software must do is calculate what the probability is that the hand will be the best hand at the end of all the betting.

- download www.pokerstars.net it is always free and very fun and teaches ya to play alot more. good luck it is great fun!!
- The poker site (pokerroom.com) I used to play on before americans were banned had a list of 'estimated return on big bets preflop with these starting hands'. There really is no list of percentages in general--they are always subject to the other guy's hand. KK is 84% to win against any lower pocket pair, about the same against two undercards, and about 66% to win against AK. But it is 16% against AA. It would be silly to make a chart that multiplies the odds of winning against different hands by the chance that opponents actually have those hands--that is a determination you have to make at the table. If you have KK, you have to bet it so that someone with A5 doesn't flop an ace and leave you exposing your hand. So what you need to learn is 1) how strong is this hand against various other hands; 2) what are the chances someone is holding a stronger hand (or a weaker hand that might turn on me). You need to affect these chances by pushing out people who could crush you by drawing one card--pocket kings lose to a single ace pretty often (about 33%) if you slow-play (upside is that you don't lose much), it is much more rare to get busted if you try to get aces that don't have paint or suited cards to go with them off the table before the flop.
- It sounds as though the online calculators at either the World Poker Tour (WPT) or Card Player magazine site will do exactly what you need. I prefer the one on the WPT site. It offers lots of flexbility in setting up the hand (e.g. totally random, some information, all information) and allows you to calculate from any point in the hand. http://www.worldpokertour.com/academy/oddscalc/ http://www.cardplayer.com/tools_tips As well, you're likely aware that there are massive hand odds tables in the back of some of the more comprehensive strategy books (e.g. Caro, Sklansky). Thumb through them in a bookstore and see if you find a format user-friendly enough. Good luck fishing!
