High Stakes Poker?
On the tv show "High Stakes Poker" what are the side bets called "props" the players keep referring to. Gabe Kaplan never shuts up long enough so you can hear what the players are saying.

- these prop bets involve what the community cards show on the board. for example, if the flop comes out J-J-6. and someone has Jacks...the person gets paid a certain amount by all the players doing the props. now if the flop was J-J-J, that person would get paid a whole lot more. If a person has Aces, and the flop comes A-A-9, then that person gets paid on his aces...etc etc. and that's the piece of paper you see that they keep looking at. It has the names of whoever is playing props, and what the bets are. It's quite annoying actually since it takes away from the game.
- They are a series of bets about all kinds of scenarios. People bet on certain things happening in the game. Apparently playing $300/$600 NLH with a $100 ante is just not enough for some players. Even with the $1200 straddle that they occasionally have the players still like to gamble more. So the sheet you see are various predetermined bets on things that might happen during the game. If you listen to the commentators they feel that the prop bets take away from the game a little. I think they are right. Next season they are not going to allow prop bets because it detracts from the actual poker action.
