Hair question(s)?
Ok here's the deal. I have really long hair (approximately 30 inches) and I want to do something with it. I have considered a perm and maybe some frosting or highlighting. Its very dark brown with red undertones. First of all I want to know which is better, frosting or highlighting, and whats the difference between the two? Secondly, which should I do first, the perm or the coloring? Also, I want long springy curls, and not a poodle type curl. What kind of perm style/rods should I ask for? And lastly, my hair is poker straight, very thick, and over the years has not taken perms well. Sometimes they only last a few weeks at best. I was told to use an exothermic perm. What is it and will it really take in my hair? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly apreciated.

- a perm with lighten it a bit. doing both will really dry it out.
- Your hair sounds like mine but Ive been perming it 4 yrs. Some people can do a rope perm best perm Ive every had.If not a spiral perm will do if you get a person that will take their time. Some one that does it quick it will likley fall out.Ive had alot and If they put alot of hair in a spiral rod it usally falls out.I hate my hair for about the first 3 weeks and then it relaxes and if its a good perm I will only need one a year.Sorry I could not help ya on the coloring part.Good luck. Once you go curly ya usally stay that way
- first perm other wise your hair will be frizzy an acid perm will do, but make sure they take really small sections and use the small rods like a gray they can do something called a piggy back where they use two different rods on one strand of hair they will probably have to use two or three boxes of solution color or highlight after perm but wait at least 72 hours after perm highlight or frosting? same thing.. different words
- i would get a spiral perm and layer the bottom of your hair and color dark real dark with red streaks in it dark red alsmost black if you know what i mean
- I think a spiral perm would be good and ask for rods that are made for thick hair. It might also be a good idea to have your hair thinned out about two weeks before the perm.
- HIGHLIGHTING is so much better! With highlights you have strands of hair that are lighter than the rest of your hair, as where frosting colors all of the top layer of hair one whole different shade. I've actually never seen a good frost in my life. When my friend didnt want the "poodle" curls we just asked if there was any way she could get the closest thing to a body wave. Just ask the hair stylist to use the Biggest rods they have. I have no idea what an exothermic perm is, but it's worth looking into.
- Just remember that once you start damaging your hair with perms or highlighting, etc. that you will have to now maintain that or else it will suck to let your hair grow back out if you decide to go virgin again. I would suggest hot rollers, curling iron or flat iron. Go to a stylist and ask for cute styling suggestions and up dos. I like to do a messy ponytail up do and put a cute clip in flower to the side. I think natural hair color is beautiful. If you want a more natural and subtle highlight I have heard that for your color of hair cranberry juice would do it. Just pour some through your hair and play in the sun a few hours. The cranberry will help add a warm red highlights. This will work for a blonde too if they were to use lemon. Good luck!
