How to Play Poker Videos

Poker on ESPN?

Does anyone else think that they should stop showing poker on ESPN? Don't agree with them showing it. Not a sport, everyone of those guys is out of shape, plus its also a bad habit for anyone to pick up....(oh, and most of them smoke also)

  1. Agree 100%. Having Pool/billiards was bad but now Poker?
  2. I don't think it should be removed from television because it can be entertaining but any time of day you can Probably find a station playing it which is a little excessive.
  3. i don't think they should get rid of it, and i know espn wouldn't even think about removing it because it is viewed highly for a program that is usually played in reruns and to fill time...it's a great game that requires skill to be successful at, obviously you wouldn't know that because you want it off tv
  4. I enjoy watching poker on ESPN. I don't consider it a "sport", but I also don't consider spelling bees or scrabble contests or competitive eating to be sports either, and they're all shown on ESPN. ESPN will show anything that's competitive and sells airtime. That's it. What does poker have to do with travel? But it's shown on the travel channel too. If you don't like it turn the channel and write them a nasty letter, but it wouldn't be on as much as it is if people weren't watching. And I don't think they're allowed to actually smoke while they're playing, so that argument goes out the window. Tons of professional athletes drink heavily, do drugs, and cheat on their wives. Should we stop watching the NBA because of that?
  5. Your argument could be used to get golf off the network. But its still on there. ESPN is about competition and poker is a competition.
  6. I guess you only enjoy sport when you get to see some buff men running around a field? Here's what you need to understand. ESPN is a business. They show whatever gets them ratings. If they could make money from competitive knitting or watching paint dry, then they would show it. Your stereotypes are also rather silly. First off not every poker player is out of shape. No one is allowed to smoke in any major poker tournament these days, so that argument is ludicrous. And seriously if you want to talk bad habits, we know that almost every baseball player does drugs. Poker is a very interesting game. It's too complicated for some people who prefer watching some beefy men pumped up on roids running around and getting all sweaty. But for many it is a very entertaining spectator event. There are few people in the world that are going to be entertained by every program on a single TV channel all the time. I think you'll find if you put your mind to it that there are more important things to worry about in life.
  7. I first have to say that poker is not gambling at all, it is a calculated risk. Poker has no house edge, and if you have the skill to beat the game then it can be very profitable. I deal poker for a living and i also play a fair amount and i can say that it takes a ton of mental skill to play it the right way. Also saying that they all smoke and drink is not true at all, some do drink at the table but many others don't., and smoking in poker rooms in Vegas is banned now for the most part. Now I'm not going to say that poker is a sport, but it is a skill game that take a lot of deep thinking, i know some nights i go home with major headaches due to the mental power it takes to win. Table games like blackjack and slots are very bad for anyone to play, but poker is not gambling at all, most people just don't understand the game well enough to play it well so they depend to much on luck, why do you think you see the same people at final table after final table. luck or skill?
  8. Sports is all about the game you sit in a poker game for 10 hours five days straight and then tell me about out of shape I personaly have limit of 5 hours and Iam done!
