how to play poker against an idiot? for good players and online players?

Okay in the past week, ive been playing poker against stone cold idiots....Im going to give two scenarios....happened yesterday and the day before. Pokerstars: I had AA preflop, in the big blind position, okay so i was guessing someone had a QQ cuz there was a pretty big raise about 4 times the BB in middle position, so naturally I reraise, what happens next? the player goes all in, I call, showdown time, what does he have?44, Im like wtf you went all in middle position, even reraised with a small pair, so as im enjoying my moment he hits a 4 on the river. Busted..... 2nd Case scenario, tourney time, 1500 stack, 15/30 blinds, this guy reraises a KK and goes all in against him, wtf does he have? 72 offsuit, he busts the KK with a two pair......,I had JJ preflop i folded it, so i mean for good online poker players, how do u play against such a player? what kind of tactics, and preflop play do u use against them?

  1. bet like a mofo and just lower your smartness if you know what i mean
  2. I went through the exact same thing. I don't know if you're playing real money or what but you're going to find quite a few of those guys. This especially goes for tourneys (in play money and rebuys). Everyone is looking to double up at the beginning which is a pretty stupid idea as I see it. If this is happening to you in tourneys or sit-n-go and your playing for a rarely inexpensive price...wait it out in the beginning. I feel it's much better to wait in the middle round of a tourney to start winning hands than in the beginning. Im not saying dont play at the start...but I almost am. Play your "High Premium" hands ONLY! i.e. AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK...i won't even get in a hand in the beginning without these hands because all I'm looking for is to double up...not win 8 or 10 small pots that I could easily win in 2 or 3 hands in the middle rounds. I may play with poket pairs but that is ONLY to flop a set, or I'll play with A suited only to flop a nut flush or get a free turn card to make it. When I started playing money tables I would play the 1/2 or 2/5 no limit and I would always run into the same type of players your facing. So I stepped up my game and played on the 5/10 no limit. I have yet to find an aggresively loose player. You will get those instances but in most cases their just trying to make a play. I lost nearly every time on the lower stakes tables but since i've been playing in 5/10 I've more then tripled my intial bankroll deposit which I started out $300. So pretty much my advice is to player the higher tables where players know the value of their cards and no when to lay down or when to push all in.
  3. The lower the limits you play the looser the play is and hence the more idiots there are. It does not matter whether you are playing ring games, SNG's or playing tournaments. In my opinion playing for free money is a waste of time. However, the flip side is that these idiots in the long run will continue to lose and lose big. Keep playing your game and you will come out on top.
  4. play high
  5. first of all, there are more and more of the type of player you are describing nowadays...someone making the type of plays you describe is now fairly common, because people see top pros making similar moves and like to try to emulate them...a perfect example of said pros is mike matusow(especially his play in the 2006 wsop main event) pre-flop, i think the best strategy is to force them to play after the flop...therefore, you should open up your game and call their raises with hands you normally wouldn't play, hoping to catch a big flop where they might give you all their money...also, i wouldn't re-raise before the flop unless i had aces, kings, or maybe queens, because if you do re-raise with, say A-K or J-J, they will eventually move in on you and put you to a decision as to whether or not your hand is good since i've recommended that you play post-flop, i'll give you simple advice as to playing in that spot also...if they play the same way after the flop as before, you should be willing to check to them and trap them when you have a big hand...also, when you have nothing, you should let them run you over for a short time before pulling the trigger on a check-raise bluff, if necessary...when in position, they will probably bet since they raised before the flop, so i would be willing to call them down more frequently and raise with hands as weak as second pair on the flop
  6. There isn't much you can do when someone is gung-ho with a low pair....the only way you can lose, is when they catch a card on the board (and with 2 chances out of the 48 remaining cards - pre-flop), the odds are in your favor....but the problem is, the lucky bastard wins with 44 against your AA because they catch the 4 on the river, and they think it happens all the time so more and more people stay in with shit hands and win once in a blue moon. you just have to keep playing the way you played it, the odds are more often than not, you will win.
  7. First of all when you had aces and he called with pocket 4's, you played this hand right, you got him to go all in with a hand that was crushed pre-flop. You want donkeys to put in the money like that, the fact that he sucked out has nothing to do with it, you played it right and got your money in as a favorite. Bad beats and suck-outs are just part of the game. But in general you want to play small pots against crazy players, only when you have a big hand do you want to play a big pot. Bluffing in pots against these kind of players is not wise, i never bluff a loose player, i let them bluff me. There is no need to go crazy with marginal hands against players like this, because they call any bet you make and they bluff on any flop, so just sit back and wait for a big hand to bust him.
