deck of cards probabilty question?
Hey all i am playing poker with friends and we have made up our own rules and need to know which hands are harder to get. Therefore i wanted to know how to work out the following questions mathematically. They involve working with a normal deck of 52 cards (no jokers) and playing poker with 5 cards each. If i am given 5 cards out of a possible 52: 1) what is the probability of getting 2 out of 5 cards that have the same suit(means hearts, spades etc) 2) what is the probability of getting 3 cards out of 5 that are consecutive e.g.(234 or JQK) I would like to know the answers to these and also how you work them out please. I have alot more of these type of questions, so if you could give me a method however complicated of working out 5 card possibilities, i will give you the best answer and my wishes. Thanks alot in advance for question 1 it should be 3/5 cards witht the same suit sorry.

- why dont you do your own math homework...
- 1) what is the probability of getting 2 out of 5 cards that have the same suit(means hearts, spades etc 100%. Since there are five cards and only four suits, you will always have to have at least two cards of the same suit.
