Texas Holdem-Tournament Play?

Do find you play a different game while playing in a tournament than you do at a "sit and go" tournament (Internet play)? Also-You think people play the "freeroll" internet tournaments more aggressively than they would in a real event with cash on the line? You think the people who consider themselves good players would play differently? In other words, the pressure of playing for hard cash has an effect on the players...

  1. I play free for practice, and I play for money online. Your competitors will definitely play differently. When playing for cash you wont often find the jack/three off suit paying to see the flop. You will see crazy play for free, all in with nothing, paying to see the flop all the time, staying around for the inside staright, etc. Playing for cash is slower and you play your cards and read betting tendencies. Playing for free people like to stick around and see all the cards. It is much harder to play for cash.
  2. I don't really play much different when playing sit-n-go vs. regular tournaments. All of the same principles apply. I think there is a huge difference when it comes to freerolls though. People are very impatient when there is very little prize money in play and they are risking none of their own money. Lots of all-ins and very aggressive (and reckless) play.
  3. People on internet poker sights are mixed with good plyrs who play card odds and bad plyrs who will play aggressive anything.....seems like the internet sights are set up to let the play anything people luck out on rivers. i have played real money games and all depending on the plys its the same as fr's unless they are high cash games. Some sights are better than others i have 2 sites i play on. Also its hard to tell how many of these plyrs are kids.

  5. free rolls are all pretty much garbage. You might as well go all in a few times and hope to get lucky cuz no one takes it seriously. As far as the sit and go tournaments go it depends on the buy in. If its only 5 dollars it wont be much different then a freeroll. But anywhere from 20 and up people start to get tighter. I gave up on internet poker because its been flooded by people with no idea what theyre doing. I would reccomend a local casino or finding charity poker in your area.
  6. Absolutely. In a single table sit and go it's possible to play ultra tight, win a couple of good hands, and make it to the money. That's not the case with a tournament. Play ultra tight and, if you're lucky, that strategy will have you finishing in the top 30%. There's never any money there. You need to be smart and aggressive and build your stack by stealing blinds and knocking out other players. You'll find yourself playing more and lower quality hands with the hope of catching a miracle flop. Freerolls are not poker. Freerolls are like video games. It doesn't become real until there is real money on the table because money is how we keep score.
