Houston Texans question.?

I'm an avid fan, right when they came to Houston, I was routing for them as a kid, I remember the hype when they were coming to town. I was only 12 years old when they played their first game in 2001, and winning against The Boys 19-10. Since then, they have not really had that chemistry. They have great players on both sides of the ball, here's their roster, naming the "good players" QB: Matt Schaub WR: Andre Johnson-Kevin Walter-Andre Davis-Jacoby Jones. RB/FB: Steve Slaton-Vonta Leach OLINE: Duane Brown-Chester Pitts-Chris Myers-Mike Brisiel-Eric-Winston with TE Owen Daniels. DLINE: Mario Williams-Antonio Smith-Amobi Okoye SECONDARY: Dunta Robinson-Jacques Reeves-Nick Ferguson-Eugene Wilson-Brandon Harrison-Dominique Barber-Fred Bennett. LBS: DeMeco Ryans, and Xavier Abibi and Zac Diles doing good as rookies, inuries hampering them, now aquiring Cato Junes and Buster Davis, like that will help... Anyways, these are the "big name" players for Houston, and mainly, people only know of "Super" Mario Williams and Andre Johnson, and maybe Owen Daniels if ya saw the pro bowl and rookie Steve Slaton. You have many GREAT players capable of many things, that defense should've been great last year, and with Schaub being healthy, no one could just blow right through them, they were number three in offense, so offense is no problem with a nice run/pass attack...defense though...with so many great players...why 22nd in the league, and how did they just blow games, we have some new players, Cody Johnson, Antonio Smith, Cato Junes, Buster Davis...but will they help?...is it chemistry or poor coaching or both? Thanks.

  1. I think you nailed it... chemistry and coaching. Teams dig themselves into a mental hole that they can't crawl out of... reference the Detroit Lions since....almost forever. They begin to think that they are the doormat for the rest of the league and it becomes their reality. You also have to remember that you are in the toughest division in the NFL...Titans, Colts, Jaguars... all playoff teams... Titans nearly undefeated last year, Manning with MVP numbers, Jones-Drew is a beast and so is the Jaguars defense (...except last year). It's tough for the Texan's to dig themselves out of this hole. I wonder if a Head coach with more experience like Shannahan would be what it takes to get the Defense going in the right direction.
  2. They've suffered from a few issues, one being that division has been rather competitive over the years. However I see them at least finally competing this year for a playoff spot. They've got quality players as you said, at nearly every position. Their o-line has always been a little iffy, but looks semi-stable nowadays. 9-7/10-6, I'd say for the upcoming year.
  3. Something else you have to look at. Houston is in the AFC South, one of the better divisions in the NFL. Yeah, the Texans might be getting better talent wise, but until they are able to unseat Indy they will always be taking a backseat to them.
