- when the game is over
- what chips you do have would go in the pot and you would be all in and not be able to win any chips bet above that amount
- Yes. He's considered all-in for the amount he has. There will then be a side pot for whoever else comes into the hand.
- If the person who was just the big blind loses all his chips from that hand then he is eliminated from the tournament and there is no small blind for the next hand being dealt. If the person still has a few chips but not even enough to cover the small blind, then he is considered all in. If this same player has enough chips to cover his small blind but not the big blind, then he can fold his cards when it is his turn to act or can risk his remaining chips all in. In this situation, everyone else in the pot matches the amount put in by the small blind player who is all in and that total is all the small blind can win. The other players who still have chips at this point can bet and start their own side pot which cannot be won by the small blind all-in player.
- I just love how everyone replies blindly to so many questions as though they're being asked about tournament play. PEOPLE, THERE ARE OTHER FORMS OF POKER BESIDES NO-LIMIT TOURNEYS! ...And rules often apply differently to different formats or in different locations. True, in most instances this player would be all-in and only eligible for a pot no larger than the size of his remaining chip(s) times the number of people that invest at least one bet in the hand. However, it's not uncommon in many card rooms, especially in limit cash games, for a player not to be permitted to participate if his stack is less than the amount of the small blind.
- In this spot there would just be a side pot right off the bat. For example lets say the blinds are 400-800, and the small blind only has 200 left. So the player will post his 200 chips and the big blind still puts out his 800 chips. Everyone at the table still must call the 800 dollar big blind, but when the betting is done, the dealer will pull 200 chips from each player and put them in the main pot, this is all the money the small blind can win, all other money left goes into a side pot. For example, lets say the big blind and the button are in the pot with the small blind, that means there are 3 people playing in the pot. So the dealer takes the small blinds 200 chips, then takes 200 chips from the big blind and the buttons bet of 800 and puts it into the main pot. So the small blind can only win the 600 chips in the main pot, the 1200 chips left from the other two active players goes into a side pot. Since the small blind had no more chips he can't win the side pot of 1200 chips, the only chips he can win are the 600 chips in the main pot.
