How to Play Poker Videos

Is it legal to play for real money on Poker Stars from the United States?

I live in Indiana. Does federal or state laws prohibit me from playing on Poker Stars for real money? I observe real money Poker Stars tables and some of the players are located in the United States. I keep getting mixed messages. Is it legal or not?

  1. Yes it is legal...
  2. There are no federal laws that prohibit online gambling with a site like Poker Stars. There is a bogus law on the books that makes it illegal to for banks to transact with poker sites but the law does not apply to the player, and there is no real means of enforcement in its current state. There are some states that prohibit online gambling, but they are equally vague. To put it simply, nobody is looking for online gamblers! There's a good rundown of online gambling law at http://poker-lobby.com where you'll also find other online poker articles. Hope this helps.
  3. It is legal, but the website cannot be based out of the united states. Most of the gambling websites are based out of closets in Canadian office buildings. The trouble with these websites and playing for real money is the fact that when you cash out with a huge amount THEY WILL NOT PAY YOU. So be smart cash out when you have a descent amount, and if you really want to win big go to vegas or atlantic city; there they have to give you what you win,
  4. Phil does not know what he's talking about. I get checks from Pokerstars all the time. They WILL pay you if you win. Period. And yes, it's legal.
