Home poker tournaments - how many people showed up at your best one?

I'm having a home tournament in October. Any other advice or stories to share?

  1. The last one I held had 27 people. I suggest getting one of those tournament programs which can be downloaded from the internet. In your search engine list poker tournament software and chose the one that will work best for you. You can program the chip colors and amount. You can list how long you want the tournament it will last and it will suggest a blind set up.
  2. I dealt a game on New Years Eve, 2000, to usher in the new millennium. It consisted of eight relatively high-stakes players near Denver. The buy-in was $2,000! (No re-buys.) We played $20-$40 limit for two hours, then no-limit 'til there was one standing. (This was a cash game, not a tourney, so the blinds only increased if and when the remaining players agreed.) I don't know if that counts since there weren't many players and it wasn't a tourney, but it was definitely exciting to deal -- especially since I didn't have anything on the line and was certain of a nice tip afterward!
  3. i play a home game tournament almost every week with my friends...the players range from only 7-10 players depending on whose available....we play 2 re-buy limit with the blinds going up every 25 minutes...we've been playing this for over a year now, and were really familiar with each others game to the point where it seems the winner is usually determined by who has the most luck that night....but the same players (most skilled) always end up in the final 3-4 or heads up.
