- Hi, if you play poker for a living, you have been around other poker players long enough to know what is considered, proper Poker ettiquette around the table. Also different poker rooms, casinos, etc, have their own rules, usually posted where all the players can see them. I would say use common sense as you would in any public situation. Don't make yourself look bad, especially if you are being televised. There are enough 'Characters' out there in the poker world already, that are known for their trademarks, Large hats, pulling hoodies over their head to give the illision of about to being born, goofy glasses, and among the physical illusion, there is one player known as " the mouth."Using foul language will not get you any kudos anywhere, not even at the poker table. Of course, you never want to give your hand away, and if you show a card, or cards to one player, you have to show them to everyone at the table, so that is out. Of course, why would you say, Flush, Three Ladies, Straight, etc. common sense in that area. You don't want your opponents to know what you are holding, keep them guessing. According to how you are betting, the chips you bet, you have lots of " Tells, how you handle the chips, facial expression, etc. you can give yourself away after awhile by letting others study you MIx up your expressions, or allways have a poker face. Don't give your hand away. Allways be polite at the table, be a gracious loser, walk away without a sour face, or tears. One of the worst things to say is after you throw your hand away before the card comes on the River, and then you say something to the effect of; I would have had-----------------, or I would have made a straight. etc. etc. NO one cares about what would have been. Poker players only care about what the bet is on the table, and who they are playing against at the minute and what the possiblilty is of them winning that particular hand. This is what is known as " pot odds." Besides these things, foul language, no one likes a poor loser, no one also wants to hear a braggart, be a gracious winner as well, and you will win respect from your fellow poker players, and be welcomed back again if lucky enough to play in a televised game. Also you are not allowed to speculate what the other players have in their hand. ( Whether you are in the hand or not.) Good luck and hope this helps you some. There are lots of good poker books out there as well as online that can give you lots of good info. - If it were all males playing, then I would have to say, "Which one of you guys is going back to my hotel with me tonight (wink)?"
