- play and go to watch the professionals
- try watching casino royale and watch
- Lots and lots of practice....oh and having enough money to enter local tournaments helps. The more practice you have playing in a live setting...the better you will get at reading people and learning your odds. Online gaming helps too. My old boss did this and in 2006 he earned over 1 million in winnings. Look him up....His name is Kevin O'Donnell...he lives in Scottsdale, Arizona....
- A lot of people call themselves professional poker players. But to really be one, first of all you have to be good. And if you're good you'll know you're good and you'll win money quite a bit more then you lose money. But if you're just starting out, buy Super System by Doyle Brunson. Also any books by David Sklansky are good reading. Practice is also good, online and even more imporant live. But don't get ahead of yourself and play in games that are too advanced for you. Start in the smaller games until you're winning regularly and then go to the next game and so on. But before even that make sure you have a large bank roll (that's an amount of money you're just going to use for poker) and some money for the essentials. I wouldn't recommend quitting your job until you've played quite a bit in your spare time. And as much as I hate to say it, but I will say it because I know plenty of people won't listen. Don't try if you don't win that often. It probably isn't just that you're unlucky. You probably aren't as good as you think. See you at the tables ;).
