Question about "Razz" on Full Tilt?
Can someone please explain why I lost the following hand in Razz style of poker? I had 9, 5, 3, 2, A and I lost to 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 From what I understand, the 5 lowest cards combined wins. Mine combined equals 20 and his combined is 24. How did I lose? (I only learned how to play yesterday, I'm more familiar with Hold Em/Omaha/7-Stud)

- the A is a high card, your hand was really A-high, while his was 8 high. Your thinking of the A being low was in A-2-3-4-5, but by itself, its a high card.
- sorry go to ultmatebet and play poker
- Because it's not the combined value of the hand, it's who has the flat out worst hand. And you had him beat with 9 high. Your highest card has to be lower than his highest card. If they tie you move on to the other cards. In regular poker A2346 would beat KQJT8. So you had the best hand, which in Razz means you lose. I made a similar mistake my first time playing, and lost a hand with A234T. Oh, and that previous poster is on crack. Aces are ALWAYS low in Razz, which is why the best hand is A2345. Straights and flushes don't count against you.
- Razz is not about the combined value of the cards. You start by comparing the highest card in your hand, in this case his 8 beat your 9. So you pretty much lost at this point. For practice, play Razz on Poker Stars for play money. They will show you the value of your hand on the screen so you know what cards are being used to determine your hand. This will be some good practice in learning to read your hands.
