Why are poker games played on ESPN? I'd just like some opinions because I really think it's silly to turn on ESPN and see guys sitting around a table playing poker. I can understand why bowling and golfing are on ESPN...heck, I can understand why fishing is on ESPN...but poker? Please feel free to share your opinions! *I just asked this, but it got deleted... Who agrees that ESPN should stop showing poker? I like poker, I used to play poker everyday. However, I can't stand poker on ESPN! I get so damned dissapointed when i turn to ESPN, or ESPN 2 hoping to get to see highlights of Football, Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, shoot, I wouldn't mind seeing Nascar, Tennis, Golf, ANYTHING that involves athletes putting their bodies, lives, and minds on the line. But POKER!? I am not getting down on poker or anyone who plays poker, I like it, and it is a damn hard game to master. but I like to PLAY, not WATCH. Would people watch a Chess match on ESPN? They could fill that time with oldschool hockey, football, basketball, baseball games. Does anyone agree with me?

Why does ESPN shun the NHL!!!!!!!!????? Ok, so if you're a hockey fan you've noticed. ESPN shows poker, and spelling bees, but hockey? Nope, sorry. Does this piss anyone else off? Fans of poker can turn to ESPN for coverage, but we have to turn to VS. and only when theres a game. Ok ok, I know Gary Bettman had alot to do with TELEVISING games, but Im not talking about televising more games, I live in South Texas and Im a fan of the Redwings, so Ive already accepted i wont see any of their games. HOWEVER, does that mean they cant show an NHL related show? I never hear anything, I never know whats going on with other teams, I get NOTHING. So yes, i KNOW about Gary Bettman. Is ESPN biased against MLS & US National soccer? During mid summer, sports in the USA are at its weakest. No football, no basketball, no hockey....all you see on TV is tons and tons of baseball. But many overlook that US soccer is here in addition to baseball. The soccer Gold Cup between USA and Mexico beat the NHL Finals and attracted attracted 41 % more television households in the United States than the Stanley Cup finals clincher . Heck it wasn't even posted on standard TV, but on the Fox Soccer Channel and Univision spanish channel. It is a disgrace that American TV...especially ESPN didn't even show our national soccer team come back and beat Mexico in a dramatic fashion. They are now ranked 11th in the world too. ESPN could have showed this game and reached a higher mainstream audience. The ratings were very good considering how very niche both channel stations are. But instead ESPN 1 & 2 showed poker, billiards, and baseball. Neither bothered showing the game! Anyone else thinks the same?

How does a sport get noticed and approved to be televised by ESPN.? I look at what's on ESPN, and i see poker, pool, darts, spelling bees, and scrabble. I'm a wheelchair basketball player and have e-mailed them about the college ranks of the game and have not gotten any response.

Want to play texas holdem poker. How do i start? I have been watching texas holdem poker for a while now on ESPN and have been playing it on computer for a while now. I want to get started because i want to see how it really feels like to play and maybe win some money. I am 20 right now so i know i cant go to Las Vegas and play for the big money. I have saved up quite a bit of money for the buy in. I want to join a tournament of a buy in of $500-2000 when i turn 21 and when i am off of school. Someone advised me to start low and play tournaments of $5-50 buy ins to get accustomed to the setting in casinos that allow you to play at 18 years of age or older. Any suggestions? Thanks
Does anyone else hate espn right now for not playing any baseball games tonight? Maybe I am just upset because I can't watch the Cubs but you would think that the last week of regular season baseball would be more important than a poker game or football game that has already been played. WHY MUST THEY DO THIS??? I live within 90 miles of Chicago, I am in there market. I get Chicago Sports Network for Comcast Cable. The stupid Sox game was on but they rarely showed the scroll at the bottom with other scores and when they did it was almost always AL scores. We ended up with ten of us crowded around a cell phone hitting refresh every 10 minutes getting the score.

Do you enjoy the old NASCAR races on ESPN Classic? In about an hour, ESPN Classic will air the 1999 California 500. It's usually on Friday mornings (Thursday night) at 3am Eastern that they air NASCAR races from years past. It's cool, especially if you were looking for something to fill in that 3am on Friday time slot. If only ESPN Classic would air these during a decent hour instead of bowling or poker tournaments.

Why does ESPN rarely ever broadcast any soccer games? Its really rear when they broadcast any soccer. Not even on sportcenter, I'm so tired of hearing about all the college games every time I turn on sportcenter...They don't even broadcast any of the MLS games...I swear I saw the national speeling bee on espn. What happened to poker DVDs? I have a bunch of poker shows on DVD. WPT Seasons 1, 2, 3 and ESPN 2003 and 2004 and a couple of others. Seeing the professionals play is very educational. Why has WPT and ESPN stopped releasing new seasons on DVD? I guess the most likely explanation they are not made anymore is because they did not generate revenue. But it is still pure speculation. Has anyone seen anything official from the Travel Channel or ESPN about this? I thought there might have been a legal issue.

why is nascar on espn? Christians: Do you think playing Poker is a sin? I was watching on ESPN the world poker series, the winner was a Christian from Asian background. He was praying during the final stages of the game to God to show His will to him. Even his family were praising God every time he wins. He said in an interview that he will take the 8 million dollars he won and he will start mission work for kids in Asia. Now, I am bewildered. Is ESPN turning their back on boxing? First off im not really into boxing. But after watching ESPN today it seems like their faith in boxing is going down because of the popularity of ultimate fighting. They had joe Rogan on and Chuck liddel, even on espn news the banner was about the liddel weigh in. Maybe ESPN i jumping on the bandwagon like most other networks did for poker.
Good poker software? I'm looking for freeware (or at least shareware with a free trial period) that is able to calculate poker odds. More specifically, all I need to be able to do is to get the percentage chance of winning a no-limit Texas Hold'em game with a specific starting hand and number of players (without knowledge of the other player's hands, of course). This would be similar to the way that ESPN displays the chance of players winning hands during the World Series of Poker. It doesn't necessarily have to work with any online poker software or anything, manual entering of hands is fine. The software can be an online app or a downloaded application, and no spyware or adware attached to it would be nice as well :) Sorry, I didn't mean to say the chance of "winning" the hand because obviously the way you play the hand will determine whether you win or not. What the software must do is calculate what the probability is that the hand will be the best hand at the end of all the betting.
Should poker be televised? I have nothing against the game, but seeing it on tv makes me wonder who watches it and why. Especially with ESPN... its definitely not a sport! Golf, bowling and NASCAR are bad enough, but poker? I hear dominoes is becoming televised as a sport too. Why?
